Java engineering in Cyprus
Java is our main backend language, and Limassol is one of the offices where that work physically happens. Engineers here work on the same systems as the rest of the Java team: order management and execution, market data capture and distribution, post-trade processing, real-time balance calculation. The codebase does not change by country. What Cyprus changes is the setup around it: an office with Java colleagues in it, and a relocation we run ourselves.
The clients are old money finance: banks, asset managers, and trading firms, rather than forex, crypto, or gaming companies. For Cyprus that is worth saying out loud.
Limassol is one of our three offices, alongside Krakow and Warsaw, which makes it one of the few places where this work happens with Java colleagues in the same room. The teams stay global, and the office is there if you want it, not because you have to be.
Every system is distributed, so delivery guarantees, idempotency, and failure modes are decisions taken at design time, not discoveries made during an incident. In an order management or reconciliation system the difference between a message delivered once and twice is an incorrect position. We have moved engineers to Cyprus many times, so this is a process rather than an experiment: visa and work permit, flights, and accommodation for your first period here while you find somewhere permanent. We hire engineers from outside the EU into our Limassol office and handle the permit process where it applies.
